What is an IP address lookup?
Every device that talks to the public internet is reachable through an IP address. Looking one up reveals the country and approximate region it's registered to, the ISP or hosting provider that owns it, the autonomous system number (ASN) of the network it lives on, and any reverse DNS hostname configured for it. Geolocation is accurate to country and usually to city, but not to street. Mobile and CGNAT IPs in particular can look quite far from where you physically are.
