What is WHOIS?
WHOIS is the public registry of who owns each domain name. A record typically includes the registrar of record, the registration and expiry dates, the domain's nameservers, and — when not hidden by privacy protection — the registrant's contact information. WHOIS is useful for checking when a domain will expire, verifying that DNS delegation matches what the owner expects, or finding the right party to contact about abuse or transfer. Many registrars now redact personal details by default under GDPR.
